Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has hosted legendary highlife musician Bright Chimezie in Lagos, deepening the connection between the two artists that began with Davido's recent tribute to the veteran's work.

The meeting follows Davido's earlier revelation that his hit song 'With You' featuring Omah Lay from his fifth studio album '5ive' drew inspiration from Chimezie's classic track 'Because of English'. The DMW boss had previously shared footage of a FaceTime conversation with the Zigima sound pioneer, where he expressed his admiration and extended an invitation to meet in person.

"I was telling them maybe we will get you to come to Lagos so we will meet. It would be nice," Davido had said during their virtual conversation, to which Chimezie warmly responded, "Okay, that would be wonderful, that would be nice."

The meeting has sparked positive reactions across social media, with fans expressing appreciation for Davido's gesture of respect toward the musical elder. One fan, identified as Nnamdi Onu, commented: "Since Davido posted about Bright Chimezie's 'Because of English', I have been playing his songs on repeat. Zigima has very wonderful songs like Ube nwanne, African style, Alabeke, etc. Thank you Davido for bringing this legend back to the limelight."

Another social media user noted: "Seeing OBO [Davido] and Bright Chimezie in the recent video will remind you one thing. 'You can only try, but you can't hate Davido.'"

Bright Chimezie, who introduced his Zigima Movement to the Nigerian music scene with his debut album 'Respect Africa' in 1984, has been a significant influence in Nigerian music for decades. His sophomore album 'Life of Yesterday,' released in early 1987, included popular tracks like 'No True Love', 'Nne m Oma', and 'Message Boy'. Throughout his illustrious career spanning nearly four decades, Chimezie has released eight studio albums.

The meeting between the two musicians has fueled speculation about a possible collaboration, with some fans suggesting a joint project might be in the works. "I suspect a hit coming from the duo soonest," wrote one enthusiastic fan.

This gesture by Davido continues to highlight the important bridge between Nigeria's musical pioneers and the current generation of Afrobeats stars who have taken the sound to global prominence while acknowledging their musical roots.
