Sam Amadi, former chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), has declared that no candidate can defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election without the involvement of Peter Obi.
Amadi, who also serves as Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts, made this assertion on Tuesday via his X (formerly Twitter) account, emphasizing Obi's crucial role in any viable opposition to the current administration.
"The truth is that without @PeterObi there is no way anyone can defeat Tinubu. What this truth implies is for you to figure out. This explains the melancholy and aggression on this street," Amadi stated.
He added: "The circle can be squared with respect and deep good faith."
Amadi's comments come amid reports that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has offered Peter Obi, who was the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, the vice-presidential slot in a proposed single-term coalition ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.
However, Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State, has maintained that his focus remains on addressing more pressing national issues rather than political positioning.
"I am only interested in the coalition against hunger, poverty, and the bad state of healthcare and education in the country," Obi reportedly stated, shifting attention from electoral politics to governance concerns.
Political analysts view these developments as early positioning ahead of the 2027 presidential race, with opposition figures already exploring strategies to present a united front against President Tinubu, who would be seeking a second term in office.
The statements highlight the continued political relevance of Peter Obi, whose performance in the 2023 elections established him as a significant figure in Nigerian politics, particularly among younger voters and urban populations.
