Former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has leveled serious allegations against the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, claiming the 8th National Assembly under his leadership faced harassment, blackmail, and deliberate frustration for refusing to compromise on principles.

Speaking at the 2025 Reunion Gala of the King's College Old Boys Association (KCOBA) in Houston, Texas, Saraki stated that the legislature under his leadership was systematically silenced and bullied by the executive arm of government, preventing the passage of beneficial legislation for Nigerians.

"The legislature under my leadership was silenced, harassed, assaulted, bullied, and blackmailed, and the executive deliberately frustrated the passage of good laws, initiatives, and recommendations that would have been highly beneficial to our society," Saraki was quoted as saying through a statement released by his spokesman, Yusuf Olaniyonu.

The former Kwara State governor further revealed that he could have maintained a cordial relationship with the presidency by agreeing to their demands. "I could have agreed with everything the Presidency under Buhari wanted and cut deals with them all the way. I would have been a good ally," he stated.

Saraki also expressed disappointment with the Nigerian elite and general public for remaining silent during what he described as executive overreach, lamenting that "We were like orphans" during that period.

The frosty relationship between Saraki's Senate and the Buhari administration began in 2015 when Saraki emerged as Senate President against the wishes of the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership, having secured support from lawmakers of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He later defected to the PDP, further straining relations with the executive.

This revelation comes amid ongoing discussions about executive-legislative relations in Nigeria's democratic system and the independence of the legislative arm of government.
