The Obidient Movement has categorically dismissed reports claiming that former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has agreed to be Atiku Abubakar's running mate in the 2027 presidential election.

In a statement released on Monday, Nana Kazaure, Director of Strategic Communication and Media for the movement, described the reports as "false" and "imaginary to the author," emphasizing that there is "no truth or basis to the reports whatsoever."

The statement came in response to media publications suggesting that Obi had been offered the vice-presidential position in a new coalition being formed with Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 elections.

"Without any risk of contradiction, we would like to reiterate that Mr. Obi has maintained that his objective and his involvement in a coalition is to provide a united front against and to tackle issues of bad governance, corruption, hunger, poverty, poor healthcare, out of school children and the myriad of other problems daily afflicting the people of Nigeria," Kazaure stated.

The movement clarified that Obi remains a member of the Labour Party and would personally announce any change in his political affiliation should it occur. "At this point in time, Mr. Peter Obi remains in the Labour party, and if ever this changes, he will make that announcement himself," the statement affirmed.

The Obidient Movement also cautioned against sensationalism and speculation, urging Nigerians and the media to focus on "building a better country" during these "difficult times" rather than spreading unverified information.

While acknowledging ongoing discussions with partners and stakeholders towards forming a coalition, the movement emphasized that their priority remains advocating for "politics that is progressive, standing firmly with the people and serving the great people of Nigeria and not politics just for the sake of grabbing power."

The statement comes amid increasing political realignments as various opposition figures explore possible coalitions to challenge the ruling party in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
