Lagos State Police have arrested a man identified as Best Orji for allegedly defiling his two biological daughters, aged 14 and 12, in the Surulere area of the state.
According to police reports, the arrest followed a complaint lodged by Orji's wife after she discovered her husband engaging in sexual activities with their eldest daughter. The 28-year-old mother told authorities that the abuse had been ongoing for almost a year before her discovery.
The woman narrated that she had returned home unexpectedly from the market to find her husband in a compromising position with their 14-year-old daughter. Upon further questioning, she discovered that her 12-year-old daughter had also been subjected to similar abuse.
"I got pregnant at 17 and I went to live with him. I gave birth to my now 14-year-old daughter. My parents decided to let us live together," the distressed mother told police investigators.
CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrest, stating that Orji has been charged to court for defilement under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
"The complainant alleged that her husband defiled their two daughters at the Surulere area, hence her report which led to the arrest of the suspect," Hundeyin explained.
Following the arrest, a medical report was obtained from a Sexual Assault Referral Center (SARC) to support the case. The suspect was subsequently arraigned on May 9, 2025.
Child sexual abuse remains a serious concern in Nigeria, with many cases going unreported due to family pressure, stigma, or fear of repercussions. Authorities continue to encourage victims and witnesses to report such cases to ensure justice and protection for vulnerable children.
