The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed one fatality following the collapse of a two-storey building in the Mushin area of Lagos State on Sunday afternoon.

Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, Coordinator of NEMA's Lagos Territorial Office, disclosed on Monday that emergency response teams have recovered the body of one victim while successfully rescuing three others alive from the rubble.

"So far, one person has been confirmed dead, while three others have been rescued alive. Search and rescue operations are ongoing," Farinloye stated.

According to NEMA, the collapsed structure was still under construction at the time of the incident. The building is located along Ishaga Road, directly opposite the Central Mosque in Idi Araba, Mushin.

Emergency responders continue to work at the site as authorities have not ruled out the possibility of more people being trapped under the debris. The cause of the collapse has not yet been determined.

Building collapses have become recurring incidents in Lagos, Nigeria's commercial capital, often attributed to substandard materials, poor workmanship, and non-compliance with building regulations.

This incident comes as authorities continue to emphasize the importance of adhering to building codes and regulations to prevent such tragedies.
