Nigerian singer John Ighodaro, popularly known as Johnny Drille, has revealed that becoming a father has given him a deeper appreciation for his parents and their sacrifices.
The Mavin Records artist, who welcomed his daughter Amaris Esohe Ighodaro with wife Rima Tahini on November 17, 2023, shared his parenting journey during a recent interview with Dose Of Society.
"The one rule I live by is family first. I would abandon anything I'm doing anywhere in the world if my family needs me," Drille stated, emphasizing the central role family plays in his life.
The singer reflected on his childhood experiences, revealing previously unknown hardships his family faced. "My parents didn't have much. I remember it was really hard sometimes and we would not have food to eat, and they would figure out a way to provide for us," he disclosed.
Drille explained how his parents shielded him and his siblings from their financial struggles. "They just made it work and made it fun for us. Back then it looked fun, but now when I think about it, I just know they were trying to shield us from a lot of things at that time."
The "How Are You My Friend" crooner described fatherhood as a transformative experience that has changed his perspective. "Now I have a daughter and I understand what it feels like to be able to nurture someone. Right now, I appreciate my parents even more for what they did for me and my siblings."
"Having a child changes your life in the most incredible ways. And I think that's not talked about enough," he added, expressing gratitude for his parents' guidance through life's challenges.
Drille also shared that his biggest dream is to take care of his parents and give them opportunities to see the world, highlighting his commitment to giving back to those who supported him throughout his journey.
