Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has issued a strong warning to opposition lawmakers, particularly those from the People's Democratic Party (PDP), to begin preparing their exit strategy from the National Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The governor made this declaration on Saturday during a Citizens Engagement Programme titled "Gwamnati da Jama'a" held in Dutse Local Government Area, where over 3,500 members of the PDP and New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

"The elected members of the National Assembly from the opposition parties should start counting their days in the Red and Green Chambers," Governor Namadi stated confidently. "The people will no longer vote for them; they will vote APC in 2027."

Namadi attributed the APC's growing popularity in Jigawa State, particularly in the southwestern zone, to his administration's commitment to human and capital development initiatives. He pointed to recent mass defections in key local governments as evidence of the party's increasing dominance.

"With what we are witnessing these days in Birnin Kudu, Buji, and now Dutse, all in this zone, there is no doubt the APC is the party the people trust," the governor declared.

The PDP had secured several strategic positions during the 2023 elections in Jigawa State, including the South-West Senatorial seat, House of Representatives seats for Birnin Kudu/Buji and Dutse/Kiyawa federal constituencies, and a state assembly seat in Birnin Kudu.

Governor Namadi reaffirmed his administration's commitment to delivering good governance under the APC platform and urged the new defectors to remain loyal to the party as they prepare for what he predicts will be a decisive victory in the 2027 elections.
