Former New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has categorically denied making recent political statements attributed to him regarding political realignments in Nigeria.
In a statement posted on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday, Kwankwaso clarified that he has temporarily stepped back from commenting on political issues in the country.
"My attention has been drawn to a statement purportedly stating my position on the recurring political realignments in Nigeria. That statements are certainly not from me," Kwankwaso stated.
"I wish to categorically state that such statements are false, unfounded, and products of political mischief," he added.
The former Kano State governor emphasized that he has deliberately refrained from making public comments on contemporary political events and intends to maintain this position for the time being.
"I have refrained from commenting on contemporary political events and I will continue to do so for the time being. In this regard, I urge the public to only engage statements that come from my public handles and other official sources," Kwankwaso advised.
The denial comes amid circulating reports suggesting that Kwankwaso had expressed intentions to align with certain political actors to "rescue Nigeria from the shackles of misgovernance and poverty."
These reports had fueled speculation that the NNPP's 2023 presidential flagbearer might be considering joining a coalition reportedly led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, aimed at challenging President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Kwankwaso's clarification effectively puts to rest rumors about his immediate political plans and alignments, as Nigeria's political landscape continues to evolve ahead of the next electoral cycle.
