The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has firmly rejected allegations that he is causing division within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), asserting instead that his actions are aimed at strengthening the party.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Monday, Wike addressed concerns about his role in the party's internal dynamics, emphasizing his commitment to upholding the PDP's constitutional framework.

"No, I'm building it," Wike stated when questioned about accusations that he was tearing the party apart. He highlighted concerns within the party regarding who would sign official documents, noting that according to the PDP constitution, "correspondence to INEC must be signed by the National Chairman or National Secretary."

The FCT Minister pointed to the current uncertainty surrounding the position of National Secretary, questioning who would sign documents for upcoming elections, including the area councils election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

"If Anyanwu is not signing and another person signs, they will go to court," Wike warned, calling for sacrifice among party members to ensure the PDP's survival.

Wike also expressed concerns about the proper procedures for convening the National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings, stating, "You want to host NEC – who issues the notice of NEC? If another person issues that notice, we will challenge it. If it's not the National Secretary, I will challenge it because that's the law, that's Supreme Court judgment."

The Minister's comments come amid ongoing tensions within the PDP, with various factions struggling for control of the party's direction ahead of future elections. Wike has maintained that his position is based on adherence to the party's constitution rather than personal interests.

Political analysts note that these internal conflicts could significantly impact the PDP's preparations for the 2027 general elections, with Wike having previously warned that the party cannot win if it fails to address its internal challenges.
