A suspected vandal met a tragic end after being electrocuted while attempting to steal armored electrical cables at the State Secretariat Complex in Dutse, Jigawa State, early Wednesday morning.

The Jigawa State Police Command spokesperson, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, confirmed the incident to reporters, stating that authorities received a distress call from the Ministry of Works at approximately 10:00 AM on Wednesday, May 15, 2025.

"Upon receiving the report, police were immediately mobilized to the scene where they discovered the lifeless body of an unidentified male adult under a culvert slab that contained armored cable wiring," SP Shiisu explained.

According to preliminary investigations, the deceased was electrocuted while attempting to vandalize armored electrical cables connected to a high-voltage power source. The body, which had already begun to decompose, has been evacuated to Dutse General Hospital.

The Command strongly condemned the criminal act and issued a stern warning to members of the public against engaging in such hazardous and unlawful activities.

"The Jigawa State Police Command remains committed to protecting public property and ensuring the safety of lives and infrastructure across the state," SP Shiisu affirmed.

Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons or activities in their communities to the nearest police station. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.

This incident highlights the continuing challenge of infrastructure vandalism in Nigeria, which causes significant economic losses and poses serious safety risks to both perpetrators and the general public.
