Joint security forces successfully repelled an armed attack on a checkpoint in Isuofia community, the hometown of Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, resulting in the death of two assailants.
The incident, which occurred on the evening of May 15, 2025, in Aguata Local Government Area, also claimed the life of one police officer, while the attackers set a patrol vehicle ablaze before fleeing.
According to a statement released by the Anambra State Police Command's Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the security team's superior firepower forced the armed criminals to abandon their operational vehicle, a Toyota Sienna, as they escaped from the scene.
"During the ensuing gun battle and due to the superior fire of the Joint security team, the criminals abandoned one of their operational vehicles, a Toyota Sienna and fled the scene," Ikenga stated.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Orutugu, has assured the public that the command is committed to apprehending the perpetrators. He described the attack as a test of the collective resolve of Anambra residents and security forces to rid the state of criminal elements.
Authorities have confirmed that calm has returned to Isuofia, with security reinforcements deployed to the area. Armed operatives are currently combing nearby bushes in search of the fleeing assailants.
This attack comes amid ongoing security challenges in parts of Anambra State, where authorities have intensified efforts to combat criminal activities and ensure public safety.
