Former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has been officially inaugurated as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BOT), the party's highest advisory body.

The induction ceremony, which took place on Monday, marks Ortom's continued relevance within the party's national structure as he takes up the responsibility of representing Benue State on the prestigious board.

Ortom's appointment comes at a critical time as the PDP intensifies efforts to reposition itself ahead of the 2027 general elections. Political analysts view this development as significant, particularly noting Ortom's close alliance with Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Both Ortom and Wike were prominent figures in the G-5 Governors, also known as the Integrity Group, which challenged the PDP's zoning arrangements during the build-up to the 2023 elections. Their continued influence suggests ongoing realignments within the party's power structure.

The meeting was presided over by Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, who also serves as Chairman of the PDP Governors' Forum. In attendance were several party heavyweights including PDP acting National Chairman Umar Damagum and BOT Secretary Ahmed Makarfi, the former Kaduna State Governor.

Other notable attendees included former governors Bukola Saraki, Aminu Tambuwal, Sule Lamido, Udom Emmanuel, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Seriake Dickson, Babangida Muazu, and Adamu Muazu.

This development underscores the PDP's ongoing efforts to strengthen its organizational structure and consolidate its position as Nigeria's main opposition party as preparations for the 2027 electoral cycle begin to take shape.
