Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has described former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi as a "weapon fashioned against" former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, claiming Obi will prevent Atiku from winning the presidency in 2027.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Adeyanju asserted that Obi had already stopped Atiku from becoming president in the 2023 general elections and would repeat this feat in 2027.
"Obi is the weapon fashioned against Atiku. He stopped him from becoming president in the last election and will do it again in 2027," Adeyanju stated.
The activist also cautioned supporters against fighting battles for politicians who are not fighting for themselves, adding: "Stop fighting for people not fighting for themselves. You cannot be more Catholic than the pope. Stop that over sabi now."
Obi and Atiku have a political history dating back to 2019 when they contested together on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform, with Obi as Atiku's running mate. The duo lost to former President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Prior to the 2023 presidential election, Obi left the PDP to join the Labour Party, where he contested as the presidential candidate and finished third behind President Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar.
Political analysts have suggested that Obi's departure from the PDP and subsequent strong performance in the 2023 elections significantly impacted Atiku's chances, particularly in the South-East and parts of the South-South where Obi garnered substantial support.
As the 2027 election cycle approaches, speculation continues to grow about potential candidates and political realignments, with both Obi and Atiku expected to play significant roles in the upcoming electoral contest.
