Nigerian international Victor Osimhen has expressed delight after making history with Galatasaray by winning the Turkish Cup and breaking a long-standing club record on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old striker netted a brace in Galatasaray's commanding 3-0 victory over Trabzonspor in the Turkish Cup final, taking his season tally to an impressive 35 goals across all competitions.

With this remarkable achievement, Osimhen has surpassed Brazilian legend Mario Jardel's previous record of 34 goals in a single season for the Istanbul giants, cementing his place in the club's illustrious history.

Speaking after the match, the Super Eagles forward attributed his success to the support of his teammates.

"I think the record is of course a great thing, but I would like to thank my teammates very much. Especially today, Yunus [Akgun] was very unifying," Osimhen told Galatasaray's official website.

"Goals make me happy, of course, but I want to reciprocate the support my teammates have given me since I came here with goals. I'm very happy to score goals, but it's a separate pleasure for me to go down in the history of this great club," he added.

Since joining Galatasaray on loan from Napoli, Osimhen has been in sensational form, helping the club secure silverware while establishing himself as a fan favorite in Turkey.

The Nigerian striker will have another opportunity to extend his goal-scoring record when Galatasaray faces Kayserispor in their next fixture on Sunday as they continue their pursuit of domestic success this season.

Osimhen's remarkable performances have sparked discussions about his future, with Galatasaray reportedly keen on securing his services permanently from Napoli.
