The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ogun State Command, has arrested a suspected ritualist for allegedly cutting off body parts of a two-month-old baby.
The suspect, identified as Samuel Adewunmi, popularly known as 'Ifa Science', was apprehended after allegedly inflicting grievous bodily harm on the infant by cutting out a part from behind the baby's head.
According to a statement signed by the state commandant, Remilekun Ekundayo, on Wednesday, the arrest followed a tip-off from the baby's father, 53-year-old Kola Taiwo.
"Upon receiving the information, officers of the command swiftly intervened and arrested the suspect who is currently undergoing investigations with the intelligence and investigations department," Ekundayo stated.
The commandant emphasized that the offense is punishable under the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State and assured that the command would do everything within its powers to ensure justice is appropriately served.
Ekundayo issued a stern warning to parents about their children's safety, urging them to "be very careful and critical of their children's whereabouts." She added that anyone intending to cause bodily harm, damage, or dangerous mayhem on another person should be prepared to face the consequences.
"The command will not hesitate to ensure that the full weight of the law is meted out on such a suspect," the commandant maintained.
This incident adds to a concerning pattern of ritual-related crimes in the region, with authorities intensifying efforts to combat such practices that target vulnerable victims, especially children.
