The Nigeria National League (NNL) has directed that all Matchday 17 fixtures in Groups C and D must kick off simultaneously as the 2024-25 season approaches its conclusion.
According to a statement from NNL Chief Operating Officer, Danlami Alanana, all penultimate games of the season will commence at 3 p.m. across northern centers on Saturday and Sunday.
The directive aims to ensure fairness and prevent manipulation of match outcomes during this crucial stage of the competition.
"Because we are in the last stage, we want equal opportunity for clubs to progress in transparency and trust in the League," Alanana stated in his letter to the clubs.
Final Group Fixtures
In Group C, football fans can expect thrilling encounters as Jigawa Golden Stars face Sokoto United, Wikki Tourists battle Zamfara United, and Mighty Jets lock horns with Barau FC.
Meanwhile, Group D will see Sporting Supreme take on Kebbi United, Yobe Desert Stars challenge Basira FC, and Kada Warriors host Adamawa United.
The stakes are high as only two teams from each group will qualify for the coveted NNL Super Eight playoff tournament, which determines promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League.
This simultaneous kick-off strategy is a common practice in football leagues worldwide during season-defining fixtures to maintain sporting integrity and ensure that no team gains an unfair advantage by knowing other results in advance.
Football enthusiasts across Nigeria will be keeping a close eye on these fixtures as teams battle for the final playoff spots in what promises to be an exciting conclusion to the regular season.
