Russian midfielder Danil Glebov has shed light on the heated confrontation with Super Eagles right-back Bright Osayi-Samuel during Friday's international friendly match that ended in a 1-1 draw at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.
The incident occurred in the closing minutes of the match when Glebov brought down Osayi-Samuel while attempting to regain possession for Russia. The challenge visibly angered the Fenerbahce defender and resulted in a yellow card for the Dynamo Moscow player.
Glebov's Explanation of the Incident
In a post-match interview with Sport Express, Glebov downplayed the altercation, stating: "Not me, the Nigerian got angry. He didn't like something. Nothing special, just a tactical foul."
When pressed about what words were exchanged during the heated moment, Glebov candidly admitted to using the F-word, while also acknowledging his limited English proficiency.
The match itself was notable for more than just this confrontation. The Super Eagles broke Russia's six-year attendance record, highlighting the significant interest in the fixture. Additionally, Russia's goalkeeper admitted to an error that led to Nigeria's goal.
Nigeria's Performance in Moscow
The Super Eagles managed to secure a respectable 1-1 draw against their hosts, with Tolu Arokodare finding the net for Nigeria. The striker has since expressed his desire to score more goals for the national team following his maiden international strike.
Meanwhile, Russian commentator Shchetinin lamented the absence of Nigerian star Victor Osimhen from the fixture, suggesting the match might have taken a different turn had the prolific striker been available.
Super Eagles coach Chelle also made headlines by defending Russia goalkeeper Safonov after his error, reminding critics that "everyone makes mistakes."
