Troops of the Nigerian Army's 3 Division and Operation SAFE HAVEN have successfully neutralized two suspected bandits during a night-time ambush operation in Plateau State, military sources confirmed on Thursday.
The operation, which took place around 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2025, was conducted in Nemaledu village, Gimbi District of Wase Local Government Area following credible intelligence reports about bandit movement through a known crossing route.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, who shared details of the operation on social media platform X, the troops engaged the bandits in a firefight, resulting in the neutralization of two suspects. A fabricated AK-47 rifle was also recovered from the scene of the encounter.
"During the operation, the troops made contact with the bandits and in the ensuing exchange of fire, neutralised two of them," Makama stated in his post.
This successful operation comes amid ongoing security challenges in various parts of Plateau State, where banditry and communal clashes have created significant security concerns for residents and authorities.
Military operations against armed groups have intensified across Nigeria's North Central region as part of broader efforts to combat insecurity and restore peace to affected communities.
The Nigerian Army has yet to release an official statement regarding this specific operation, but continues to encourage citizens to provide timely and credible information to security agencies to aid in the fight against banditry and other security threats.
