Operatives of the Nigerian Police Force in Ekiti State have arrested a man identified as Abiodun Eniola for allegedly stealing a motorcycle during what was supposed to be a test ride.
According to police reports, the suspect posed as a potential buyer at a motorcycle dealership in Iworoko Ekiti. After negotiating with the dealer, Eniola requested to test ride the brand-new, unregistered motorcycle. Once permission was granted, he sped away with the vehicle, disappearing from the area.
However, his escape was short-lived. Officers from the Safer Highway Unit of the Ekiti State Police Command intercepted Eniola during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Ado-Iworoko Ekiti Road, where he was found in possession of the stolen motorcycle.
Speaking on the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, confirmed that investigations revealed Eniola had no intention of purchasing the motorcycle. "The suspect admitted during interrogation that he never planned to purchase it," Abutu stated.
The police spokesperson further assured that the suspect would face legal consequences for his actions. "The suspect will be arraigned accordingly," he added.
This incident serves as a cautionary tale for motorcycle dealers and other vendors who allow potential customers to test merchandise without proper verification or security measures.
