The Lagos State Government has announced the dismissal of five officers from the Central Business District (CBD) Office following acts of unprofessional conduct, underscoring the administration's commitment to accountability within the public service.
Mrs. Bola Olumegbon-Lawal, Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Central Business Districts, confirmed the disciplinary action during a ministerial press briefing on Thursday. The briefing was part of activities marking the second anniversary of Governor Sanwo-Olu's second term in office.
Olumegbon-Lawal reiterated the government's zero-tolerance approach to misconduct and issued a stern warning to the public against assaulting government officials, stating that the administration would not condone any form of aggression toward its personnel.
Expansion of CBD Initiative
In a significant development for the state's commercial infrastructure, Olumegbon-Lawal revealed that Governor Sanwo-Olu has approved the establishment of the Apapa Central Business District Office. This new office will focus on addressing infrastructure maintenance, enhancing environmental management, and creating a more conducive environment for commerce in the bustling Apapa axis.
According to the Special Adviser, the state's CBD initiative represents a strategic effort to transform key commercial hubs through improved traffic flow, better sanitation, and the elimination of illegal street trading.
She highlighted that collaborative efforts with agencies such as the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have been instrumental in ensuring safety, orderliness, and compliance across the districts.
Stakeholder Engagement and Ongoing Reforms
Olumegbon-Lawal emphasized the importance of stakeholder engagement in achieving sustainable progress. She noted that regular consultations with transport unions, market associations, and other community leaders have been vital to the effective enforcement of CBD policies.
The ongoing reforms include the removal of illegal structures and strict enforcement of the state's "No Street Trading" policy, aimed at restoring order and improving the aesthetics of business districts.
The Special Adviser reassured the public of the government's commitment to maintaining safety and order, urging all Lagosians to adhere to traffic and environmental regulations to support the state's vision for organized and efficient business districts.
