A leading chairmanship aspirant for Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Mr. Mobolaji Sanusi, has rejected the results of Saturday's All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries in Lagos State, alleging vote manipulation in the process that declared his opponent the winner.
Sanusi, the former Managing Director of Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA), described the reported result of 21 to 2 votes against him as "blatantly fabricated and outrageously concocted" in a statement released on Sunday.
"For the records, I didn't lose the Saturday primary election in APC ACME secretariat and those behind the laughable score line would have their conscience to contend with, forever. However, l stand with this decision as a loyal party man," Sanusi stated.
The primaries, conducted at the party's state secretariat in Ogba, produced flagbearers for 55 of the 57 local government areas and local council development areas ahead of the July 12 elections.
According to Sanusi, 12 out of 18 key leaders in Ojokoro LCDA, including a prominent politician and the area's woman leader, had voluntarily endorsed him as the consensus candidate before the primaries. He noted that the party leadership, under Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, chose to disregard the collective stance of local stakeholders.
"They know best why they made that decision," he remarked.
Despite his grievances, Sanusi maintained that he accepts the party's decision as final, stating: "We have moved past the stage of complaint to the period of reality. The decision of the party is final, and once again, l reiterate that I abide with it with my readiness to contribute to its success, going forward."
Reflecting on his qualifications, Sanusi highlighted his experience as a newspaper editor and his tenure at LASAA, where he "managed men and material resources across the 57 local council branches of the agency with commendable savvy."
He expressed gratitude to his supporters, particularly Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, who "motivated and stood by me all through the period of my attempts to get the party ticket."
Sanusi concluded his statement by emphasizing his integrity: "Leaving this contest with my integrity intact is my greatest joy. After all, l am a professional in politics, not a professional politician. Life continues."
The Lagos local government elections are scheduled to take place on July 12, 2025, with reports indicating that over 100 petitions have trailed the APC primaries across the state.
