The Lagos State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has announced plans to adopt a consensus approach for selecting its candidates ahead of the forthcoming July 12 local government elections in the state.

This decision was disclosed on Thursday by the party's Lagos State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Richard Benson, who explained the rationale behind the selection strategy.

"We are adopting the consensus approach for our primaries," Benson stated. "In places where we have many aspirants, we shall ask others to step down for the popular and strong aspirants to fly the party's flag."

According to the party spokesperson, while a specific date for the primaries has yet to be determined, he assured that the exercise would be conducted within the timeframe established by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC).

Benson expressed optimism about the party's prospects in the upcoming elections, emphasizing their commitment to full participation. "We are fully involved and participating in the local government election in Lagos," he affirmed.

The NNPP publicity secretary projected confidence in the party's ability to secure victories in certain areas. "We are going to win some seats because we have areas where we are strong. We are going to win in our strongholds. We will spring a surprise in the election," he declared.

The July 12 local government elections in Lagos State are expected to be keenly contested, with various political parties preparing their strategies to secure positions across the 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas of the state.
