The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Sanusi Ahmed, on allegations of possessing and circulating counterfeit currency within the state.

Ahmed, a resident of Sokoto Rima quarters in Katsina, was taken into custody on May 8, 2025, following intelligence reports about his suspected involvement in financial crime, according to police authorities.

During a search operation at the suspect's residence, law enforcement officers recovered substantial evidence including 345 pieces of counterfeit $100 US bills and 5 pieces of fake 10,000 CFA notes. Other items seized during the operation included two bottles containing suspected charms, an empty bottle of perfume, and a white cloth.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, confirmed the arrest and recovery of the items, stating that the suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue into the matter.

Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, commended the officers involved in the operation and acknowledged the vital role of community members in providing information that led to the arrest. He reassured residents of the command's commitment to protecting citizens and maintaining peace throughout Katsina State.

The police have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station to help combat crime in the state.

This arrest comes amid growing concerns about financial crimes and counterfeit currency circulation in Nigeria, which has significant implications for the country's economy and financial system integrity.
