Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi has opened up about his decision to represent Germany in international football instead of Nigeria, despite his Nigerian heritage.

The 23-year-old, who was born in Munich to a Nigerian father and Romanian mother, was eligible to represent three countries at the international level - Nigeria, Germany, and Romania. However, Adeyemi ultimately chose to play for his birth country, Germany.

When asked about his decision during an interview with Oma Sports, Adeyemi acknowledged that it was a question he frequently addresses with his father.

"It's a difficult question. I have to answer this to my father a lot of times," the former Red Bull Salzburg player explained. "It's just like this, I have offers from Germany [Football Association], I had a good feeling there. And, at the end, I had to play for Germany. This is how easy it is."

Since making his choice, Adeyemi has represented Germany six times at the senior level and has scored one goal for the European nation.

The Dortmund star's decision adds him to the list of players with Nigerian heritage who have opted to represent European countries, a recurring theme that has seen the Super Eagles miss out on several talented footballers over the years.

Adeyemi, who previously played for Red Bull Salzburg before joining Borussia Dortmund, continues to develop his career in the German Bundesliga while representing Die Mannschaft at the international level.
