The Kano State Police Command has apprehended a 25-year-old man for allegedly killing his sister's boyfriend during a late-night visit in Minjibir Local Government Area.

According to a statement released on Monday by Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, Mansur Umar was arrested following the death of Sulaiman Musa, who had visited Umar's sister, Fiddausi, at their family residence in Kunya Village.

The incident reportedly occurred on Friday, May 9, 2025, at approximately 9:30 p.m. when a confrontation erupted between Umar and Musa. During the altercation, Umar allegedly struck Musa on the head with a stick, causing a severe injury.

"The victim was initially rushed to Kunya Cottage Hospital before being referred to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano, where he was pronounced dead at 12:50 a.m. the following day," the police statement detailed.

The suspect is currently being held at the Homicide Section of the Command's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.

Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, has urged residents to exercise restraint and avoid taking the law into their own hands. The police command emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence and encouraged citizens to report disputes to the nearest police station for proper resolution.

"We appeal to residents to prioritize peaceful coexistence and report any disputes or issues to the nearest police station for prompt resolution," the Command advised in its statement.

The police have also called on the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities as part of ongoing efforts to maintain law and order across Kano State.
