Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has formally requested approval from the State House of Assembly to allocate funds for experts who will assist in recovering outstanding oil revenue deductions from the federal government over a 25-year period.

The request was presented during today's plenary session, where the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Jibril Isma'il Falgore, read the governor's letter to the lawmakers. The Speaker noted that this was not the first time Governor Yusuf had made such a request regarding the recovery process.

House Majority Leader, Lawan Hussaini Dala, provided additional context, explaining that the initiative originated from the Nigerian Governors' Forum, which is seeking approval from all state assemblies to engage professionals for the recovery effort. Dala clarified that the experts' fees would be deducted directly from the recovered funds rather than from current state resources.

"If the recovery is successful, the funds would significantly boost development in Kano by supporting healthcare, education, water supply, and other key infrastructure projects," Dala stated during the session.

The Assembly members unanimously approved the governor's request, expressing confidence that the initiative would accelerate development across the state. The approval marks a significant step in Kano's efforts to secure additional revenue that could transform various sectors of the state economy.

This move comes as part of broader efforts by state governments across Nigeria to recover funds allegedly owed to them by the federal government, potentially unlocking substantial resources for development projects at the state level.
