A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has remanded four suspects in the Port Harcourt Correctional Facility following allegations of kidnapping and murder dating back to 2012.

The suspects, identified as Emmanuel Eke, Ogechi Ogbogu (also known as "United"), Charles Anayor (alias "Biggie"), and Nelson Isaiah, appeared before Justice Augusta Kingsley-Chukwu on a three-count charge of conspiracy, kidnapping, and murder.

According to court documents, the four accused persons, along with others still at large, allegedly abducted Ndubuisi Orlu Orlu, a teacher from Ubima community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State in 2012.

Prosecutors claim that after collecting a ransom of fifteen million naira from the victim's family, the suspects killed the teacher, placed his body in a sack, and buried him in a forest between neighboring communities.

When the charges were read in court, all four defendants pleaded not guilty. No bail application was made during the proceedings.

Justice Kingsley-Chukwu ordered the immediate remand of the suspects and adjourned the case to May 20 and 27, 2025, for accelerated hearing to commence.

The case has drawn significant attention in Rivers State, particularly in Ubima community, where the victim was reportedly well-known as a local educator before his disappearance over a decade ago.

This case highlights ongoing security concerns in Rivers State, where authorities continue to grapple with incidents of kidnapping despite increased efforts to combat such crimes.
