A prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Anngu Orngu, who previously served as the North Central Coordinator for Atiku Abubakar's Presidential Campaign, has officially abandoned the opposition party and declared his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Orngu praised President Tinubu's reform agenda, describing it as "bold and transformational" and capable of setting Nigeria on a path to long-term prosperity.

"President Tinubu is not paying lip service to the reformation of Nigeria. He is doing the hard and painful work of fixing a broken system," Orngu stated, highlighting the administration's economic and institutional reforms.

The former campaign coordinator, who also previously served as Senior Special Assistant to the Benue State Governor on Student Affairs, specifically commended the removal of fuel subsidy as one of the administration's most courageous decisions.

"Subsidy removal was not a popular decision, but it was the right one. It takes courage to confront decades-old structures of waste and abuse," he emphasized, arguing that the policy had previously enriched only a privileged few while keeping the majority in poverty.

Orngu also pointed to improvements in public finance management under Tinubu's leadership, noting that "no governor in the country is currently borrowing to pay salaries," which he interpreted as a sign of stabilizing national finances.

In a direct criticism of his former principal, Orngu advised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to "rest and stop acting like a juvenile political activist." Instead, he urged the PDP chieftain to support President Tinubu's nation-building efforts.

"This is a time for national rebuilding, not petty politics. Those who truly care about Nigeria should rally behind Tinubu's vision," he said.

Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Orngu called on Nigerian youth to support President Tinubu's reelection bid. "I call on all Nigerian youths to stand solidly behind President Tinubu to succeed. Let us give him the overwhelming mandate he deserves in 2027 to continue the great work he has started," he urged.

"The future belongs to us, and we must support the leader who is laying the groundwork for it," he concluded.

Orngu's defection represents another blow to the PDP, which has been struggling with internal crises and defections since its defeat in the 2023 presidential election.
