A fire outbreak has destroyed properties worth millions of naira at a residential building in Ile-Labe Abepe Area of Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

The incident, which occurred on Thursday, May 15, 2025, affected eight rooms in the private residential building, according to a statement from the Oyo State Fire Service.

Hon. Maruf Akinwande, Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Friday. According to him, the emergency was reported at exactly 14:10 hours through a distress call from one Alhaja Sabiatu.

"By 14:11 hours, a fire tanker with five personnel led by Acfs Odewabi was dispatched to the scene. On arrival, we found an eight-room private residential building already engulfed by fire," Akinwande stated.

The fire service team promptly swung into action and was able to contain the fire within minutes. No lives were lost in the incident, and properties worth millions of naira were saved due to the quick intervention of the fire service agency.

Investigations revealed that the fire was caused by an unattended cooking gas that ignited nearby combustible materials.

CFS Seyi Awoyemi, the Zonal Commander of Ogbomoso Fire Station, has urged members of the public to always pay utmost attention to domestic gas and other related cooking materials in their homes to prevent similar incidents.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety measures in residential areas, particularly when using cooking gas and other flammable materials.
