The Federal Government has announced plans to close the Ijora Bridge in Lagos State starting Sunday, May 18, 2025, to carry out essential repair work on the infrastructure.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Works and signed by Olukorede Kesha, Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, the closure will be total in some sections of the bridge and partial in others.
The government explained that the maintenance work aims to improve road safety and enhance the driving experience for motorists using the bridge.
"This will ensure a smoother, safer roadway. The ministry has carefully worked on diversion routes and traffic management," Kesha stated in the release.
Commuters have been advised to seek alternative routes during the closure period. Additionally, residents and businesses within the affected areas are encouraged to plan accordingly to minimize disruption to their daily activities.
This development comes after the recent closure of Independent Bridge in Victoria Island, which resulted in significant traffic congestion across the state before it was reopened to the public.
The Federal Government has not specified how long the repair work on Ijora Bridge will last. Motorists and residents are advised to stay updated on further announcements regarding the closure timeline and available alternative routes.
