President Bola Tinubu has urged FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to disregard critics and focus on his mandate to transform Nigeria's capital territory during the commissioning of the rehabilitated International Conference Centre in Abuja on Tuesday.
The facility, now renamed the Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre, represents what the President described as his administration's commitment to "change the way we do things, to reflect us as people of quality, people of character, people of determination, people of great spirits."
In his address to Wike, Tinubu said, "Don't pay attention to busybodies and the bystanders, and whatever they say. Continue with your good work. You are a transformational leader. You have the vision, foresight and determination to succeed."
Infrastructure as Economic Backbone
The President emphasized that his administration recognizes modern infrastructure as the foundation of economic prosperity. He noted that the renovated conference center symbolizes Nigeria's commitment to regional diplomacy, continental trade discussions, and global partnerships.
In a move that signals fiscal responsibility, Tinubu also informed political associates, appointees, and government officials that the conference center would not be available for free use for social or corporate events.
The commissioning comes amid ongoing political discussions about coalition-building ahead of the 2027 elections, with some opposition figures suggesting the need for alliances to challenge the current administration.
The event marks another milestone in the Tinubu administration's infrastructure development agenda, which has been a central focus since taking office.
