The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has sealed the premises of an illegal organization operating in Abia State for impersonation and false representation.

In a statement released on Thursday by the commission's director of corporate affairs, Ondaje Ijagwu, the FCCPC announced that it had shut down the Community Crime Prevention Initiative of Nigeria (CCPIN) and arrested its operator, Onwuka Okorie, during a raid conducted on Wednesday.

The operation, carried out in collaboration with security operatives, followed credible intelligence that CCPIN was falsely claiming affiliation with the FCCPC and misleading the public by presenting itself as an "Authorised Consumer Protection NGO" of the commission.

During the raid, authorities recovered several exhibits bearing FCCPC's name and logo, along with false enforcement materials from the premises. The illegal outfit had reportedly issued public notices alleging joint surveillance operations with the FCCPC and was soliciting consumer complaints through unauthorized telephone lines.

"The Commission categorically disassociates itself from CCPIN and affirms that it neither authorises nor partners with CCPIN or any entity or individual," the statement read.

The FCCPC emphasized its commitment to operating with the highest level of transparency while ensuring consumer protection and market integrity. The commission has strongly advised the public to disregard any announcements, sealing notices, or consumer-related campaigns issued by CCPIN or any of its representatives.

Okorie, the operator of the facility, is currently in custody pending further investigation and prosecution. The FCCPC continues to monitor for similar illegal operations that may undermine consumer confidence and misrepresent the commission's authority.
