The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has initiated legal proceedings against MultiChoice Nigeria Limited, its Chief Executive Officer John Ugbe, and other executives for allegedly obstructing investigations and failing to comply with lawful summons.

According to court documents marked FHC/ABJ/CR/197/2025 filed by the FCCPC legal team led by Barrister Nsitem Chizenum, the charges follow a protracted dispute between the consumer protection agency and the pay TV service provider.

This legal action comes in the wake of a May 8, 2025 ruling by an Abuja Federal High Court, which dismissed MultiChoice Nigeria Limited's suit that sought to uphold its controversial DStv and GOtv price increases in Nigeria.

The FCCPC has been investigating MultiChoice's pricing practices following consumer complaints about frequent subscription fee hikes. The commission's move to arraign the company's executives signals an escalation in regulatory oversight of the pay TV sector in Nigeria.

Industry analysts note that this case could set a precedent for how multinational companies operating in Nigeria respond to regulatory investigations, particularly in sectors with significant consumer impact.

MultiChoice Nigeria has yet to issue an official response to the arraignment notice. BenriNews will provide more details as the case develops.
