Popular Nigerian rapper and entertainer Folarin Falana, better known as Falz, has found himself at the center of a heated religious controversy after declaring that "fornication is not a sin" in a recent post on X (formerly Twitter).
The statement, which directly challenges fundamental Christian teachings, has triggered widespread backlash across social media platforms, particularly from religious Nigerians who have countered his claim with biblical references.
Many critics have accused the rapper of promoting immorality and contradicting core Christian values. The controversy has sparked intense discussions about celebrity influence on religious matters and personal beliefs.
One user, @udemeAkpan, responded by citing scripture: "The assertion that fornication is not a sin is a direct contradiction of core biblical teachings. The scripture explicitly commanded to 'flee from sexual immorality' (1 Corinthians 6:18)."
Another user, @Blessing_olivia, provided an extensive biblical rebuttal: "1Cor. 6:18 went ahead to tell us too flee from it as it is even a sin against one's own body too. The bible even asked believers in 1Cor 5:9-11 to avoid fornicators. And Galatians 5 let us know God despised Fornication."
Some responses took a more personal tone, with @BintDija commenting, "No wonder you no gree marry," while @drpenking accused the artist of chasing clout, writing, "You dey follow chase clout at your age."
The controversy has extended beyond social media, with reports that Falz and social commentator Solomon Buchi have also disagreed over the remark, further fueling the ongoing debate.
Falz, who has previously revealed he was once "a lawyer by day, rapper by night," is no stranger to expressing controversial opinions. However, this particular statement has touched on deeply held religious beliefs in Nigeria, where Christianity plays a significant role in the cultural fabric.
As of the time of reporting, Falz has not issued any clarification or retraction of his statement despite the growing controversy.
