Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has strongly disagreed with Arsenal icon Paul Merson's recent comments suggesting that the Red Devils should hold a victory parade if they win the Europa League this season.

Scholes described the idea of a parade as "embarrassing" given Manchester United's poor performance in the Premier League this season.

The disagreement began when Merson criticized Manchester United on Sky Sports for what he perceived as arrogance in not planning a celebration parade for a potential Europa League triumph.

"The trophies do not come thick and fast. Man United are a million miles off. Enjoy it while you can. For me, it's a bit of arrogance. I would want a parade," Merson had stated.

Responding in his column for TNT Sports, Scholes firmly rejected the idea: "There's no way they should have a parade for winning the Europa League, absolutely no chance. I think it would be slightly embarrassing."

The former Manchester United midfielder emphasized that the real value of winning the Europa League lies elsewhere: "I think the key is the prize of Champions League football next season with a better budget and [chance of] attracting players."

Manchester United are set to face Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final on Wednesday, with both clubs hoping to salvage something positive from their seasons.

The Red Devils have struggled in domestic competition this season, making the Europa League their best chance to secure Champions League qualification for the next campaign.
