Actor and politician Desmond Elliot has revealed that former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole was instrumental in launching his political career by introducing him to President Bola Tinubu.

In a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Elliot shared details of his political beginnings: "One day, Oshiomhole took me to Asiwaju and said, 'This is my son, and he's interested in politics.' Asiwaju looked at me and said he knew me already and liked me. It was still a surprise to me."

The Lagos State House of Assembly member also addressed his experience competing against fellow actor Olumide Oworu in the 2023 elections. Elliot clarified that while he harbored no ill feelings toward Oworu, he was disappointed by the support his opponent received from industry veterans.

"I wasn't upset with him," Elliot stated. "I was hurt by the veterans who endorsed him."

During the interview, Elliot also recounted a frightening incident during the 2020 #EndSARS protests, where he narrowly escaped an attack by unknown assailants. The nationwide protests called for the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) following accusations of extrajudicial killings and extortion.

Elliot faced significant public backlash during this period after controversially referring to Nigerian youths as "children" during a plenary session at the Lagos State House of Assembly. This comment sparked widespread criticism on social media and damaged his reputation among young Nigerians.

Despite these challenges, Elliot has maintained his position in Nigerian politics while continuing to acknowledge the role key political figures played in his transition from entertainment to governance.
