American musician Chris Brown has been remanded in custody after being denied bail by Manchester Magistrates' Court on Friday following assault charges related to a 2023 nightclub incident.

Justice Joanne Hirst, who presided over the hearing, stated that the case exceeds the jurisdiction of the Magistrates Court and transferred proceedings to Southwark Crown Court in London. The next hearing has been scheduled for June 13, 2025.

The R&B star was arrested on Thursday at The Lowry Hotel in Salford and subsequently charged with grievous bodily harm. Brown is accused of attacking music executive Abe Diaw with a bottle at Tape nightclub in Mayfair in 2023.

According to court documents, Diaw has filed a lawsuit against Brown seeking $16 million in damages for injuries sustained and losses stemming from the alleged attack.

The arrest comes as a significant blow to the singer, who has faced legal troubles in the past. Brown's representatives have not yet released an official statement regarding the case.

This development marks another chapter in the controversial career of the 36-year-old performer, whose personal and legal issues have often overshadowed his musical achievements.
