American rapper Chris Brown was arrested early Thursday morning at The Lowry Hotel in Manchester in connection with a 2023 nightclub assault in London, Metropolitan Police confirmed.

The 36-year-old artist was taken into custody shortly after 2 a.m. on May 15, 2025, following his arrival in the UK on a private jet the previous afternoon. The arrest relates to an incident that occurred on February 19, 2023, at Tape nightclub in Hanover Square, Mayfair.

According to reports, Brown allegedly carried out an unprovoked bottle attack on music producer Abe Diaw around 3 a.m. at the exclusive London venue. After The Sun newspaper made inquiries about Brown's presence in the country, Metropolitan Police detectives traveled to Manchester to make the arrest.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police stated: "A 36-year-old man was arrested at a hotel in Manchester shortly after 02:00hrs on Thursday, 15 May on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He remains in custody. The arrest relates to an incident at a venue in Hanover Square on 19 February 2023."

Brown is currently believed to be held at a local police station for questioning. This is not the first time the controversial artist has faced legal troubles. His past includes several incidents, including a highly publicized 2009 assault case involving his then-girlfriend Rihanna.

The Grammy-winning performer has maintained strong connections with Nigerian artists over the years, including collaborations with Davido, who once stated that "meeting Chris Brown changed my life." Brown has also expressed admiration for African culture and declared Wizkid as his "brother for life."
