The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, led members of the party's National Executive Committee to the Nigerian Senate on Tuesday to witness the formal defection of three senators from Kebbi State.

Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, who presided over the plenary session, welcomed the distinguished visitors before announcing the defection of Senator Adamu Aliero representing Kebbi Central Senatorial District from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.

Also defecting to the ruling party were Senator Yahaya Abdullahi, former Senate Leader in the 9th Assembly representing Kebbi North Senatorial District, and Senator Garba Maidoki of Kebbi South Senatorial District.

In their formal letters of defection, the lawmakers cited internal crisis within the PDP as the primary reason for their decision to switch allegiance. They also expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu's 'Renewed Hope Agenda', stating that the administration's policies were yielding positive results despite the security challenges facing the nation.

The defection of these three senators marks a significant political shift in Kebbi State, effectively strengthening the APC's presence in the North-Western region while dealing a blow to the opposition PDP.

Political analysts suggest this move could potentially influence the political landscape in Kebbi State ahead of future elections, as all three senatorial districts in the state are now represented by APC lawmakers in the upper chamber.

The high-profile defection ceremony, attended by the APC's national leadership, underscores the political significance of this development in Nigeria's evolving political dynamics.
