Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has declared that members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) remain firmly committed to supporting President Bola Tinubu's administration despite persistent criticism from opposition parties.
Speaking to journalists after a closed-door meeting with progressive governors and ministers in Abuja on Wednesday, Uzodimma, who also chairs the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), emphasized that President Tinubu's reform-focused governance is yielding results despite vocal opposition.
"At the beginning of this administration, opposition voices were very loud in criticising the government's reform policies. But today, the President is being vindicated," Uzodimma stated.
The governor highlighted that international organizations including the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) are now commending Tinubu's bold reforms and governance approach, validating the administration's economic policies.
Addressing the composition of the meeting, Uzodimma explained that the gathering represented the APC's practice of partisan democracy. "This government was produced by all progressive governors. Every person here today is an APC member, regardless of their official position. We've come together to congratulate ourselves and Nigeria on recent developments," he said.
The forum also discussed strategies to better support APC members and Nigerians who have remained committed to the party's vision despite what Uzodimma described as "distractions."
"We have a duty to support this brave man, who is committed to Nigeria's progress," the governor emphasized, referring to President Tinubu.
With President Tinubu's second anniversary in office approaching, Uzodimma revealed that the APC is preparing to mark achievements and reflect on challenges faced during this period. He noted that the APC National Working Committee will soon announce anniversary programmes and events with full participation from party members.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who also spoke after the meeting, described it as "a family meeting of APC governors, ministers and National Working Committee members."
According to Idris, the gathering provided an opportunity to review the administration's performance as it approaches its midterm mark. "We are pleased with what has been achieved so far. There's much to showcase," he stated.
The Information Minister added that the party plans to intensify efforts to educate Nigerians about the government's achievements ahead of the midterm milestone, while also collecting feedback from citizens to improve future performance.
Idris emphasized that the APC is a large family, and meetings of this nature help in reflection and planning for the future of both the party and the nation.
