Former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kola Ologbodiyan, has issued a stark warning that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will soon face an internal implosion it cannot manage following recent high-profile defections to the ruling party.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Monday, Ologbodiyan claimed that the opposition is more fragmented under President Bola Tinubu's administration than it was during former President Muhammadu Buhari's tenure.
"Even under the almighty Buhari, the opposition parties were not so fragmented," Ologbodiyan stated. "I want to assure Nigerians: the implosion that is coming in the All Progressives Congress, they will not be able to handle it. It's almost here as we speak."
The former PDP spokesman highlighted existing divisions within the ruling party, noting that the original coalition that formed the APC is already showing signs of disintegration. "President Tinubu brought ACN into the APC, are they united today? They are fragmented. Former President Muhammadu Buhari brought the CPC into the APC, are they united today? They are fragmented," he explained.
Ologbodiyan's comments come in the wake of recent defections to the APC, including Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and several national and state lawmakers who recently abandoned the PDP for the ruling party.
Addressing those celebrating PDP's apparent weakening, Ologbodiyan cautioned: "So it's going to be a season of implosion. They are talking about the PDP today and saying, 'Oh, governors are leaving' do you know who will leave your party tomorrow? You don't know."
Political analysts suggest these comments reflect growing tensions within Nigeria's political landscape as parties begin positioning themselves ahead of future electoral contests, with the ruling APC attempting to consolidate power while opposition forces regroup.
