The Kano State Police Command has successfully rescued a 75-year-old kidnap victim and apprehended one suspect in a special operation conducted in Bebeji Local Government Area.
According to a statement released by Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the victim, Abdulrahman Yunusa, a native of Maigana in Soba Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was abducted from his residence on May 3, 2025. Following his kidnapping, the abductors demanded a ransom of ₦20 million for his release.
The rescue operation was executed by the Command's Anti-Kidnapping Squad following what authorities described as "foolproof intelligence." Acting on this information, police officers raided a criminal hideout in Bagau Town, Bebeji Local Government Area on May 9, 2025.
During the operation, law enforcement arrested 23-year-old Musa Tukur from Kudan Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Tukur was reportedly guarding the elderly victim at the time of the raid.
"The victim was found with his eyes covered with fabric and some body parts tied with rope," the police statement revealed, highlighting the inhumane conditions under which the elderly man was held captive.
Following his rescue, Yunusa received medical treatment at a hospital and has since been discharged. Police confirmed that the victim has been reunited with his family after the traumatic ordeal.
This successful operation comes amid growing concerns about kidnapping incidents across northern Nigeria, with criminal gangs increasingly targeting vulnerable individuals for ransom.
The Kano State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes, urging citizens to continue providing timely information to assist law enforcement efforts.
