The Katsina Community Watch Corps has arrested a 50-year-old man identified as Birish for allegedly providing logistical support to armed bandits operating in various communities across the state.
Birish, a native of Gozo in Zango Local Government Area of Katsina State, was apprehended following intelligence reports linking him to the supply of essential items such as food, water, and fuel to criminal groups in the region.
During his interrogation, which was captured on video and shared on social media platform X by security analyst Zagazola Makama, the suspect confessed to his involvement with the bandits.
"My name is Birish. I'm from Gozo, Zango LGA. I'm 50 years old and of Hausa ethnicity," he stated in the video. "I have bought fuel and taken it to them. They always send a woman to collect it and deliver it to them. I don't know her name."
The suspect revealed that he provided the criminal groups with various supplies including beverages, sachet water, bread, rice, and fuel. However, he claimed he did not personally deliver these items to the bandits' hideouts.
"After we buy the items, they send people to collect them in the town near Alhaji Bello's house," Birish explained during questioning.
While admitting to supporting the criminal group, the suspect denied any involvement or knowledge of a recent attack carried out by the bandits in the community.
"Those who came to attack the man were up to five, but I don't know how much they collected from him. He stole some items and was apprehended, and a judgment was passed on him. I was not given any money," he stated.
The arrest comes amid intensified efforts by security agencies to combat banditry in Katsina State, which has seen numerous attacks on communities, kidnappings, and killings in recent years.
Authorities have not yet disclosed what charges Birish will face, but supplying logistics to known criminal groups is a serious offense under Nigerian law.
