Adewole Adebayo, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has issued a stark warning to President Bola Tinubu, stating that the Nigerian electorate will vote him out in 2027 if the current economic hardship and insecurity persist.

Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television's Politics Today program on Wednesday, Adebayo reminded viewers of Tinubu's pre-election promise that he should be voted out after four years if he fails to improve conditions in the country.

"Before 2023, Tinubu was saying that if things don't turn around positively, he should be voted out after four years. Now, I ask, are things in the right way now?" Adebayo questioned.

The former presidential candidate did not mince words in his assessment of the current administration's performance, suggesting that if the status quo remains unchanged by the next election cycle, Tinubu should "simply go home and thank God that he ruled Nigeria for four years."

Adebayo also criticized the two dominant political parties in Nigeria, claiming there is little difference between them. "What we know is that APC and PDP are the same. They are the same company now. They work together. Nigeria wants alternative politics. We are looking for a new direction. That's why people are saying new direction," he stated.

His comments come amid growing public discontent over rising inflation, persistent security challenges, and economic hardship facing many Nigerians since the removal of fuel subsidies and other economic reforms implemented by the Tinubu administration.

Political analysts note that Adebayo's remarks reflect a broader sentiment among opposition figures who are positioning themselves as alternatives ahead of the 2027 general elections, highlighting the administration's challenges in delivering on campaign promises.

The Tinubu administration has consistently defended its policies, maintaining that the ongoing reforms, though painful in the short term, are necessary for Nigeria's long-term economic stability and growth.
