Former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Olujimi, has cast doubt on the African Democratic Congress (ADC)'s ability to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 presidential election, citing the party's lack of adequate structures.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television's Politics Today on Thursday, Olujimi expressed skepticism about the party's organizational capacity despite its recent high-profile endorsements.

"ADC could not have worked for me. All the leaders there are my friends and my leaders. But it is not properly anchored. The structures are not there," Olujimi stated during the program.

The former deputy governor further explained her preference for the People's Democratic Party (PDP) as a more viable opposition platform. "I had thought that if there would be a coalition, the coalition would be in the PDP, where the structures were very distinct and clear," she added.

Olujimi's comments come in response to the July 1 development when several prominent political figures adopted the ADC as their platform for the 2027 elections. This coalition includes former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola, former Senate President David Mark, and Labour Party's 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, among others.

The formation of this coalition represents a significant attempt to create a united front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections. However, Olujimi's assessment suggests that despite bringing together political heavyweights, the ADC may still face organizational challenges in mounting an effective campaign against incumbent President Tinubu.

Political analysts note that building effective grassroots structures remains a critical factor in Nigerian electoral politics, often determining a party's ability to mobilize voters across the country's diverse regions.
