The Oyo State Government has issued an urgent warning to pensioners regarding a fraudulent verification notice currently circulating among retirees in the state.

According to a statement released in Ibadan on Friday by Professor Salihu Adelabu, the Commissioner for Establishments and Training, the government has not authorized any such verification exercise requesting pensioners to submit photocopies of their pension certificates, account details, and phone numbers to the ministry.

"Any message requesting pensioners to submit photocopies of their pension certificate, account details, and phone numbers to the ministry is fake and should be disregarded," Professor Adelabu stated in the official communication.

The Commissioner emphasized that the ministry follows proper protocols when contacting eligible individuals regarding their benefits, and all official information is disseminated exclusively through recognized and credible channels.

Professor Adelabu urged pensioners to remain vigilant against misinformation specifically targeting retirees and advised them to verify any suspicious messages before taking action. He reaffirmed the state government's unwavering commitment to the welfare of retirees, assuring that transparency and due process would continue to guide all matters related to pensions and gratuities.

The Commissioner also called on the general public to exercise responsibility by sharing only verified information, noting that protecting pensioners from fraud is a collective responsibility.

This alert comes amid growing concerns about targeted scams affecting vulnerable populations, particularly elderly retirees who may be less familiar with digital security practices.
