Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has alleged that President Bola Tinubu will dismiss Nyesom Wike as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) once his political objectives in the South-South region are achieved.
Speaking during an interview on Arise TV's Prime Time on Tuesday, Lamido claimed that Wike's appointment was strategically designed to help President Tinubu secure political control of the South-South geopolitical zone.
"Tinubu was looking for someone who will help him in his political interest," Lamido stated. "The whole appointment of Wike was to make sure Tinubu secures the South-South."
The former governor further explained that President Tinubu has already made significant inroads into the region. "So far, he has been able to get Akwa Ibom and Edo states. Wike already has Rivers State," he noted.
Lamido predicted that once Tinubu achieves complete political dominance in the South-South, Wike would be rendered politically expendable. "By the time Tinubu is able to secure the South-South in his own basket, Wike will become irrelevant, and he will remove him," Lamido asserted.
"He appointed Wike for a purpose, gave him an office for a purpose; by the time the purpose is no more, that's the end of it," the former Jigawa governor concluded.
This statement comes amid ongoing political realignments in Nigeria, particularly in the South-South region where several states have seen shifting political allegiances in recent months.
Neither the Presidency nor Minister Wike has responded to Lamido's claims as of the time of this report.
