The Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Aboki Danjuma, has initiated a manhunt for gunmen who killed two police officers attached to Hon. Kingsley Ikoro, the Majority Leader of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly representing Afikpo North-West constituency.

Speaking through the command's spokesperson, Henry Okoye, on Monday, CP Danjuma assured that there would be "no hiding place for the killers of the cops." He confirmed that police operatives are currently combing bushes around the crime scene in efforts to apprehend the suspects.

According to reports, the tragic incident occurred on Sunday when gunmen ambushed and killed the two policemen at the Okigwe axis of the road in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State. The officers had remained behind after one of the vehicles in the Majority Leader's convoy developed a mechanical fault.

"While the other vehicles continued the journey, the two policemen stayed by, only to be ambushed and killed thereafter," Okoye explained. He further stated that the bodies of the officers "who paid the supreme price" have been evacuated to a morgue, and investigations have commenced.

The attack comes amid growing concerns about security challenges in the Southeast region, with increasing reports of targeted attacks on security personnel and government officials.

The Imo State Police Command has vowed to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice and made to "face the full consequences for their unlawful action."
