Former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, has issued a stark warning that Nigeria's current situation is "far worse than a country at war," highlighting the severity of the nation's security challenges.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Sunday, Chidoka emphasized that the instability in Nigeria has surpassed civil war conditions. "From the data, it's about more than a civil war," he stated, drawing attention to the alarming reality facing the nation.
The former minister made a troubling comparison, noting that casualty figures in Nigeria could be compared to conflict zones such as Gaza and Syria, despite Nigeria technically not being in a state of war. "Nigeria is hurting badly," he said, calling on the government to demonstrate decisive leadership in addressing these challenges.
Chidoka referenced recent killings and kidnappings as evidence of a deteriorating security situation across the country. Rather than engaging in blame games, he urged the government to convene stakeholders to collaboratively develop solutions to these pressing issues.
His comments come as Nigeria faces multiple security threats simultaneously. The North-East continues to battle terrorist activities, while banditry plagues the North-West. States like Benue and Plateau remain hotspots for violence and killings.
Just last week, a tragic incident occurred in Katsina State when at least 34 individuals lost their lives while attending prayers at a mosque in the Unguwar Mantau community of Malumfashi Local Government Area.
Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, recently suggested that the surge in violence might be connected to political activities leading up to the 2027 general elections. In an interview on Channels Television, Musa indicated that the increasing insecurity could be closely linked to political maneuvering.
As Nigeria grapples with these multifaceted security challenges, Chidoka's warning serves as a sobering reminder of the urgent need for effective solutions to restore peace and stability across the nation.
